In an age where researchers are concerned about funding their research and publishers are concerned about the integrity of the research they publish, are we leaving out an important consumer of research outcomes—The Public. We promote peer review rigor, the tools we use to ensure the integrity of the research we publish, but little energy advocating for the research with the public. And the public are the ones voting in the politicians who say yay or nay to much of the funding that supports our communities. What should publishers be doing to educate the public about the important work being done, why it should be trusted, why their support is needed? How can we tell our story better? We market to authors, librarians, but what about the public? This session we will discuss ways publishers can educate the public and ensure the science conversations reach this audience.
